Luke, a friend of Tala and orchestrator of an epic festival, kindly asked Tala to step up to the plate and deliver some fun lighting installations in two areas of the hallmark no 6. Portmeirion, an Italian style village town designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-ellis is a wondrous setting for a music and arts festival. It was great to take a crack at installing Tala lights outdoors and into the wild!
Nestled in and amongst the town and woodland grounds, the festival is a truly unique offering. Before setting up we had some time to explore. I especially loved the jurassic size of the gunnera plants dotted throughout the woods. The madagascan vibes made it super easy to forget you were in WALES!?
Our first port of call was to head down to Dinner at Cloughs. This 200 seater banquet dishes out michelin-star food for lunch and dinner throughout the weekend. With the help of a super human gang of volunteers, we rigged up three hundred meters of festoon and and array of Tala LED bulbs.
Next up was to set up the VIP stage. Big shout out to Ant who helped us get up and down the giant tent with hundreds of Tala bulbs! The sound system at this stage was epic. Also great to see our pal Bare grooves crank out some funky jams on the Saturday framed by the steady glow of our Tala lights.
What was my Favourite part of the festival?
I loved the Village limits stage set on a floating platform in the forest!
Favourite people at the Festival?
Andrew Weatherall was ridiculously good. This prolific DJ from Windsor cuts some incredible techno and looks like a bloody pirate from East London!
My next favourite person to chat to was Aiden Byrne - the Festival no 6 all time fave who serves up the Sunday cheffing at the Cloughs banquet. Earning his first Michelin Star at age 22 confirms that Aiden doesn't mess about when it comes to flambéing British grub! He picked out the 6W Gaia LED dangling above the dining hall as the firm bulb of choice.
To conclude, Tala will definitely be doing more events and festivals. It was so refreshing to take our designs into such amazing temporary spaces. Collaborating with people in different industries whether it be music, food or art to create beautiful experiences is a a fun process - watch this space!
Where should we take Tala next!?
*Someone say Burning Man please...
